Sticky notes to swimlanes: keeping FlowTape honest
By Darren Sim
FlowTape begins with low-fidelity capture because speed builds candour. The risk is that beautiful diagrams erase conflict. We keep conflict on the page with dotted lines, open questions, and explicit unknowns.
The swimlane pass is editorial: we collapse duplicate steps, but never merge competing owners without a footnote. If two leaders disagree, both versions appear with a dated note.
Quarterly refresh is non-optional. Maps rot quickly; the ritual matters more than the software underneath.
